Victorian Beaded Capelet

Black Victorian Cape with stand-up Mandarin style collar, heavily beaded with waist length

bugle bead trimming, a small amount of the bugle bead trimming is missing

(this garment is after all over 100 years old) this can be quite easily sympathetically repaired,

without showing any obvious repair work.

This garment is quite small measuring approx 40cm from shoulder to shoulder,

but it can be worn open giving a more relaxed look, and being more versatile in size!

A truly beautiful piece of Victorian History that can be lovingly worn & cherished today!

"What strikes me about fetish legend/corsetier Mr. Pearl’s images is how much he looks like a true English gentleman – and how, magically, his 18-inch corseted waist works to enhance that image, the opposite of what one might expect it to do.
Mr. Pearl grew up in South Africa and moved to London at the earliest chance after completing his military service. He spent three years in New York in the early 90s, where he did his most intimate published interview, of which there are few. Already a renowned tightlacer by this time, Pearl treated corsetry with such reverence that he insisted on precision in every aspect of his involvement with it; when his New York interviewer described him as a corsetier, he interrupted. “Forgive me,” he said. “I am a designer who employs the corset and lacings into his designs. I am not a corsetier – I have not attained that specialized knowledge. There are only about five left in the whole world now, who possess that art. I hope one day to be amongst them.

Fast-forward to the 2000s: Mr. Pearl is a successful corsetier, commissioned by Mugler, Lacroix, Galliano and Gaultier when they need a master to produce their corset designs for the runway. Clients include Dita, Kylie Minogue and Jerry Hall. He lives in Paris, and works out an atelier behind the Notre Dame."

Raymond "Ossie" Clark

(9 June 1942–6 August 1996) was an English fashion designer who was a major figure in the Swinging Sixties scene in London and the fashion industry in that era. As a result, Ossie is now extremely well renowned for his vintage designs, the contemporary fashion era being characterised by past influences and a retro feel to design.

Clark is compared to the 1960s fashion greats Mary Quant and Biba. He is also known to be a great inspiration for many fashion designers, including Yves St Laurent, Anna Sui and Tom Ford. Manolo Blanik has said of Ossie Clark's work: "He created an incredible magic with the body and achieved what fashion should do — produce desire." Ossie Clark and Ossie Clark for Radley clothes are highly sought after, and are worn by well known models like Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell.

This chiffon shirt, in pristine condition, was designed by the Iconic Ossie Clark, and the fabric designed by his muse & wife Celia Birtwell.
From the mid-1960s to the mid-1970s Ossie Clark dressed the famous and fashionable. His most productive period coincided with London's most magical, optimistic, rule-breaking decade.
Birtwell's signature prints inspired from the natural world, were made as limited editions, so as you can imagine an Ossie Clarke shirt made in a Birtwell print is a highly collectable piece.

'Mr and Mrs Clark and Percy' by David Hockney

Mr and Mrs Clark and Percy is a painting by the British artist David Hockney. Painted between 1970 and 1971, it depicts the fashion designer Ossie Clark and the textile designer Celia Birtwell shortly after their wedding at which Hockney was Clark's best man. Hockney and Clark had been friends since the early 1960s. One of their cats sits on Ossie's knee (the cat in the painting was not in fact Percy — this was the name of one of their other cats — but Hockney thought Percy made a better title than Blanche, the cat he painted). The work is in acrylic on canvas, and measures 2170 x 3084mm. The painting featured in the final 10 of the Greatest Painting in Britain Vote in 2005, the only work by a living artist to do so. The painting is in the collection of the Tate Gallery.It has been on loan to The Walker Art Gallery Liverpool.

A rare Art Deco French Butterscotch Bakelite and brass link bracelet.

Each link has a brass seahorse attached with a screw, as was done during this period.

The inside measurement closed is 7" and is 1" wide.

It has a secure slide clasp; it has the maker’s mark of JHP Paris and Made in France.

This stunning piece does show age or patina due to the nature of the metal.

I have not tampered with this item allowing the new buyer

the option to have this piece cleaned or leave as is.

No Damage in perfect working order.

A couple of months ago Laurence Llewelyn Bowen came into

Quiggins AttiQue to film "House Gift" for ITV 1

It went out on TV last friday...........

House Gift on ITV1 sees three interior design experts descend on an ordinary home and compete to find a House Gift which will win a permanent place in the heart of the household. But there is a twist – each expert is armed with a different budget as they head off in search of the perfect House Gift: £1000, £500 or £200. They are followed as they hunt down hidden gems – everywhere from antiques markets, to the UK’s best known high street stores. From auction houses to charity shops – and salvage yards to designer boutiques… They might choose a reproduction mirror, an antique sideboard, or a contemporary leather sofa. It might be a modern Italian chair, a huge piece of art or a delicate china figurine. Whatever it is, it must compliment the home and appeal to the homeowners. At the end of the day, the homeowners must pick which House Gift they want to keep. Will the £200 gift triumph over the £1,000 gift?

The experts are: Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen , Danielle Proud, interior designer and weekly columnist for Sunday Times Style Magazine & antique dealer Tom Keane .

What an interesting week it has been! On Tuesday Morning the flamboyant Mr Laurence Llewelyn Bowen came swanning into our shop wearing his signature long black leather trench coat & designer shades, hair floating in the breeze, 'twas a sight to behold, on a dismal Autumnal day on Aigburth Vale!

Gazing up at the ceiling he remarked "What a magnificent array of Chandeliers!!!" ............

"You must have chandeliers from every era!!" he gushed!

Besotted by a huge Rococo Lantern, he began to tell me he had been recommended to come & see us, as he was filming for ITV1, a new series called "House Gift", where homeowners make a wish for several items for their home, three designers then go out to purchase gifts within their budget, the homeowners then choose their favourite gift.

(Luckily for us,we had a visit from Laurence, who, as I was later to discover, had the highest budget !)

Accompanied by a small film crew he proceeded to explore our little Aladdin's Cave!

After spending best part of the morning having a good mooch and filming, they left to search for more locations. Within an hour I received a phone call to ask if they could return, as "Laurence was really taken with Quiggins" The rest of the day was spent in turmoil filming Laurence purchasing a beautiful Art Deco chandelier & a huge Rococo Mirror.

Laurence was such good fun and absolutely charming!

A welcome change from a dreary drizzly Tuesday! & more so, a great publicity boost for Quiggins AttiQue!
